I named this collection The Crane Project because if you ride around our city, you can’t help but se cranes everywhere. Cranes are a symbol of progress, letting you know that there is new development and opportunities to come. But conversely, these cranes symbolize a departure from the things that once made a place beautiful. Progression for some, means regression, oppression, and/or suppression of others. The people moving into an area don’t always consider the people already there. It’s like Manifest Destiny all over again, and it’s happening throughout the nation. All of the photos in this collection were shot in areas of Atlanta that are being gentrified.
